fresh cilantro, chopped
1
tablespoon
lime juice
to taste
salt and pepper
2
tablespoons
olive oil (for frying)
as needed
burger buns and desired toppings (lettuce, tomato, avocado, etc.)
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, mash the cooked black beans with a fork or potato masher, leaving some chunks for texture.
Add in the breadcrumbs, chopped red onion, minced garlic, jalapeño, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper.
Mix until all ingredients are well combined. If the mixture is too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs. If too dry, add a splash of water.
Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a patty.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, gently place the patties in the skillet.
Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until crispy and golden brown. Flip carefully to avoid breaking.
Serve the patties on buns with your choice of toppings, such as lettuce, tomato, and slices of avocado.
Notes
Adjust the cayenne pepper to taste for desired spiciness.
