Ingredients

250g spaghetti

300g minced beef or plant-based alternative

1 medium onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 red bell pepper, chopped

1 zucchini, diced

400g crushed tomatoes (canned)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 tablespoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Grated Parmesan cheese (or a vegan alternative) for serving

Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, sauté for about 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.

Add the minced beef (or plant-based alternative) to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spatula (about 5-6 minutes).

Stir in the chopped red bell pepper and zucchini, cooking for another 3-4 minutes until they start to soften.

Pour in the crushed tomatoes and balsamic vinegar, then sprinkle in the dried oregano and red pepper flakes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Simmer the sauce on low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens slightly.

Toss the cooked spaghetti with the sauce in the skillet until fully coated.

Serve on plates, garnished with fresh basil leaves and a generous sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

                  Prep Time: 10 mins | Total Time: 30 mins | Servings: 4

                    - Presentation Tips: Arrange the spaghetti in a nest on the plate, drizzle with extra olive oil if desired, and place a sprig of basil on top for a striking contrast. You can also dust the plate's edges with a sprinkle of red pepper flakes for an extra 'assassin' touch!
