Ingredients

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for serving)

4 sub rolls

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, onion powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined without overworking the meat.

Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs (about 1.5 inches in diameter). You should get around 12 meatballs.

In a large skillet, over medium heat, add a little olive oil and cook meatballs until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. They don’t have to be fully cooked through at this stage.

Pour the marinara sauce over the meatballs and let simmer for an additional 10 minutes to cook through.

While the meatballs are simmering, slice the sub rolls down the middle without cutting all the way through.

Place the rolls on a baking sheet and spoon some of the marinara sauce onto the inside of each roll.

Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the sauce and place 3 meatballs into each roll.

Spoon extra marinara sauce over the top of the meatballs, then sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese generously over each sub.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute. Garnish with fresh basil leaves before serving.

                        Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 35 minutes | Servings: 4

                          - Optional: Serve the subs with a side of crispy potato wedges or a garden salad for a complete meal.
