Ingredients

1 cup fresh blackberries (or frozen, thawed)

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup water

1 teaspoon lemon juice (optional for brightness)

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine the fresh blackberries, sugar, and water.

Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture comes to a simmer. This should take about 3-5 minutes.

Once simmering, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the blackberries have broken down and the syrup has thickened slightly.

Remove from heat and let the syrup cool for about 10 minutes. If desired, stir in the lemon juice for added brightness.

Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the syrup into a clean jar or container, discarding the solids.

Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature before sealing the container.

Prep Time: 5 min | Total Time: 25 min | Servings: 1 cup

                - Presentation Tips: Pour the syrup into decorative glass bottles, and label them for gifting. The syrup can be drizzled over pancakes, added to cocktails or iced teas, or used as a topping for desserts!
