Ingredients

1 large head of green cabbage

1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)

1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 egg, lightly beaten

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Cabbage:

Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove the core from the cabbage. Submerge the whole head of cabbage in the boiling water for about 2-3 minutes, or until the outer leaves are tender and pliable. Remove and set aside to cool. Once cool enough to handle, peel off 12-14 leaves and trim the thick vein if necessary.

      Make the Filling:

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.

          Stuff the Cabbage:

Lay a cabbage leaf on a flat surface. Place about 2 to 3 tablespoons of the filling at the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll it up tightly away from you, making sure to tuck in the sides as you go. Repeat with the remaining leaves and filling.

              Prepare the Sauce:

In a separate bowl, mix together the tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce.

                  Assemble the Dish:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread a thin layer of the sauce mixture on the bottom of a large baking dish. Place the cabbage rolls seam side down in the dish, packing them closely together. Pour the remaining sauce over the rolls.

                      Bake:

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the filling is cooked through.

                          Serve:

Allow the rolls to rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley for added flavor and color. Enjoy your Savory Stuffed Cabbage Rolls!
