Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 egg (for egg wash)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.

Cut in Butter: Add the cubed cold butter to the dry mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Cheese and Herbs: Gently fold in the shredded cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped chives, and parsley, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and egg. Slowly pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

Form the Biscuits: On a floured surface, turn out the dough and gently knead it a few times to bring it together. Pat it out to about 1-inch thickness. Use a round cutter to cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Egg Wash: In a small bowl, beat the remaining egg and brush it on top of each biscuit for a golden finish.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are lightly golden on top and cooked through.

Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before serving warm with butter or your favorite spread.
