Before diving into the recipe, let's explore what exactly a cruffin is. The cruffin is a relatively new creation in the world of baking, thought to have originated in Australia. It marries the best characteristics of two beloved pastries: the flaky, buttery layers of a croissant and the soft, airy structure of a muffin. Made by rolling croissant dough into a muffin shape, cruffins provide a unique texture that is both tender and crispy.

Ingredients

1 package (1 lb) puff pastry sheets, thawed

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

4 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and pepper to taste

Cooking spray or extra butter for greasing the muffin tin

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard muffin tin with cooking spray or butter.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheets into a large rectangle (around 12 x 15 inches).

In a bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, garlic powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper.

Brush the garlic butter mixture evenly over the puff pastry using a pastry brush.

Sprinkle both the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese evenly over the brushed pastry.

Starting from one long edge, roll the puff pastry tightly into a log. Slice the log into 8 equal sections to form pinwheels.

Take each pinwheel and place it standing on its side into the greased muffin tin. Gently press down to spread out the layers a bit.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.

Once baked, let them cool for a few minutes before garnishing with extra parsley.
