2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon sea salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

¾ cup granulated sugar

¾ cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup toasted pecans or walnuts, chopped (optional)

Flaky sea salt for topping

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

    In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and sea salt until well combined.

      In a large bowl, using a hand mixer or stand mixer, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).

        Add the vanilla extract and eggs, mixing well until fully incorporated.

          Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Avoid over-mixing.

            Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed.

              Drop the cookie dough by rounded tablespoons onto the prepared baking sheet, placing them about 2 inches apart.

                Sprinkle a small pinch of flaky sea salt on top of each cookie dough mound for an extra flavor kick.

                  Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown but the centers are still soft.

                    Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
