Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter

1 cup packed brown sugar

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped pecans (or walnuts)

1 sleeve saltine crackers (about 40 crackers)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer, covering the entire sheet.

In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together over medium heat. Stir continuously until the mixture starts to boil. Boil for 3 minutes without stirring, until it becomes a caramel-like consistency.

Remove the pan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Carefully pour the hot mixture evenly over the saltine crackers, spreading it with a spatula to fully cover each cracker.

Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-7 minutes, watching closely until the top is bubbly and golden.

Remove from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the hot caramel-covered crackers. Let them sit for about 5 minutes to soften, then use a spatula to spread the melted chocolate evenly.

Sprinkle the chopped pecans over the chocolate layer and finish with a light sprinkle of sea salt.

Allow the mixture to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then place it in the fridge for an additional 30 minutes to fully set.

Once set, break the Christmas Crack into pieces and store in an airtight container at room temperature.
