Ingredients

12 oz penne pasta

1 tablespoon olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)

1 teaspoon sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese (plus more for serving)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving ½ cup of the pasta cooking water.

Sauté the Garlic: In a large skillet over medium heat, heat the olive oil. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute, or until fragrant but not browned.

Make the Tomato Sauce: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stir in the red pepper flakes and sugar, and season with salt and pepper. Let it simmer for about 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Add the Cream: Lower the heat and slowly stir in the heavy cream, mixing until the sauce is smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add some of the reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.

Combine Pasta and Sauce: Add the drained penne pasta to the skillet and toss to coat the pasta evenly with the creamy tomato sauce. Mix in the chopped basil and Parmesan cheese, stirring until the cheese is melted and everything is well combined.

Adjust Seasonings: Taste and adjust the seasoning with more salt, pepper, or red pepper flakes as needed.

              Prep Time: 10 mins | Total Time: 25 mins | Servings: 4

                - Presentation Tips: Serve in individual bowls, sprinkled with additional Parmesan cheese and a few fresh basil leaves for garnish. Drizzle a little olive oil on top for added richness. Enjoy!
