Ingredients

12 oz fresh or frozen cranberries

1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed if possible)

3/4 cup maple syrup (or honey for a twist)

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon salt

Zest of 1 orange

1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

Rinse the cranberries under cold water, removing any stems or bad berries.

In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, orange juice, and maple syrup. Cook over medium heat until the cranberries start to burst and bubble, about 10 minutes.

Add the ground cinnamon, ground ginger, salt, and orange zest to the mixture. Stir well and reduce the heat to low.

Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, for another 5 minutes or until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.

If using, stir in the chopped pecans for added texture and flavor. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl and refrigerate until chilled, or serve warm.
