Ingredients

1 pound ground beef or turkey

1 small onion, diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 bell pepper, diced (any color)

1 can (15 oz) pizza sauce

1 can (14 oz) diced tomatoes, drained

2 teaspoons Italian seasoning

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Salt and pepper to taste

8 ounces rotini pasta (uncooked)

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup pepperoni slices

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large skillet, brown the ground beef (or turkey) over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.

Add diced onion, minced garlic, and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until the onion is translucent and the peppers are softened.

Stir in the pizza sauce, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes to meld the flavors.

Meanwhile, cook the rotini pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

In a large bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the meat sauce mixture, ensuring everything is well mixed.

Layer half of the pasta mixture in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese and half of the pepperoni slices over it.

Add the remaining pasta mixture on top, followed by the rest of the mozzarella cheese and remaining pepperoni.

Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Once finished, remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired, then serve hot and enjoy!
