Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1 cup brownie mix (store-bought or homemade)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans, optional)

1 cup cookie dough base (homemade or store-bought)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder until well combined. Set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar, stirring until smooth.

Add in the eggs, one by one, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and combine until fully incorporated. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if using.

Spread the brownie batter evenly in the prepared baking pan, using a spatula to smooth the top.

Take the cookie dough and scoop it out in tablespoon-sized portions, then flatten them slightly and place them on top of the brownie layer. It’s okay if some brownie is still visible.

In a separate bowl, prepare the brownie mix according to package instructions or your homemade recipe, then pour it over the cookie dough layer in the pan, spreading it evenly to cover the dough.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Allow the brookies to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes, then use the parchment overhang to lift them out. Cool completely on a wire rack before cutting into squares.
