Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup ketchup

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 teaspoon mustard

Salt and pepper, to taste

4 large garlic bread rolls or hoagie buns

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped onion until it's translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.

Reduce the heat back to medium and stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for about 5-10 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly, stirring occasionally.

While the filling simmers, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Slice the garlic bread rolls in half and place them on a baking sheet, cut side up.

Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for about 5 minutes until they're lightly toasted.

Remove the rolls from the oven and spoon the Sloppy Joe filling generously onto each roll. Top each with a handful of shredded cheddar cheese.

Return the loaded garlic bread Sloppy Joes to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish with freshly chopped parsley before serving.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 30 minutes | Servings: 4 servings
