Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

½ cup diced ham (preferably smoked or honey baked)

½ cup buttermilk

¼ cup unsalted butter, melted

1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan or a cast-iron skillet with cooking spray or a little butter to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.

Add Cheese and Ham: Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and diced ham into the dry mixture until well distributed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and melted butter until combined.

Form the Dough: Pour the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir gently until just combined; do not overmix. The dough will be slightly sticky.

Transfer to Pan: Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop generous spoonfuls of the dough into the prepared cake pan, spacing them evenly apart.

Pour Remaining Butter: Pour any remaining melted butter over the top of the biscuits. This will create a lovely buttery crust during baking.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the tops are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serve Warm: Let the biscuits cool in the pan for about 5 minutes. Serve warm, garnished with fresh chives if desired.
