Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

2 tbsp olive oil

1 large onion, thinly sliced

2 cups beef broth

2 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for a thicker gravy)

2 tbsp water (optional, for cornstarch mix)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Do not overwork the meat.

Form the Patties: Divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into oval patties about 3/4 inch thick.

Cook the Patties: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the hamburger patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 160°F). Transfer the patties to a plate and cover them to keep warm.

Sauté the Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced onions. Sauté them over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they are soft and caramelized.

Make the Gravy: Pour in the beef broth and soy sauce to the skillet with the onions. Scrape the bottom of the skillet to release any brown bits. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. If you prefer a thicker gravy, mix the cornstarch with the water in a small bowl until smooth, then add it to the skillet and stir until thickened.

Combine and Serve: Return the cooked hamburger steaks to the skillet, spooning the gravy over each patty. Let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes so the patties can soak in the flavors.

Garnish and Enjoy: Serve the hamburger steaks hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley. Pair with mashed potatoes, rice, or steamed vegetables for a hearty meal!
