Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp almond extract

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp grated lemon zest

1/2 tsp grated orange zest

Colorful sprinkles (for decoration)

1 cup powdered sugar (for icing)

2-3 tbsp milk (for icing)

Additional lemon/orange zest (for icing, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Add Eggs and Extracts: Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Mix in the vanilla and almond extracts.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and citrus zest.

Mix Together: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture until well combined.

Shape the Cookies: Use a small cookie scoop or your hands to shape the dough into balls about one inch in diameter. Then, gently flatten them and place them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.

Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges start to turn golden. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Prepare the Icing: In a bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until you achieve a smooth icing consistency. If desired, mix in a bit of extra lemon or orange zest for flavor.

Decorate: Once the cookies are completely cool, drizzle the icing over the top using a fork. Immediately sprinkle colorful decorations on top while the icing is still wet.

Let it Set: Allow the icing to set for about 30 minutes before serving.
