Ingredients

2 cups whole milk

1/2 cup heavy cream

2 tablespoons granulated sugar

2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

4 ounces dark chocolate (semisweet or bittersweet), chopped

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of sea salt

Whipped cream, for topping

Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for garnish

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, combine the whole milk and heavy cream over medium heat. Stir gently as the mixture heats up, but do not let it boil.

While the milk and cream heat, in a separate small bowl, mix the granulated sugar and cocoa powder together.

Once the milk and cream are warm (about 160°F), whisk in the sugar and cocoa powder mixture until completely dissolved.

Reduce the heat to low and add the chopped dark chocolate to the saucepan. Stir continuously until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth and velvety.

Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of sea salt to enhance the flavors.

Pour the hot chocolate into mugs, and top generously with whipped cream.

To finish, sprinkle chocolate shavings or a dusting of cocoa powder over the whipped cream for an extra touch.
