Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1/2 cup jalapenos, fresh or pickled, finely chopped

1/4 cup green onions, finely sliced

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

20 wonton wrappers

1 cup panko bread crumbs

Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)

Optional: Sour cream or ranch dressing for dipping

Instructions

In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sharp cheddar cheese, chopped jalapenos, green onions, garlic powder, and smoked paprika. Mix until thoroughly blended and smooth.

Take one wonton wrapper and place it on a clean surface. Spoon about a teaspoon of the cheese mixture into the center of the wrapper.

Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper lightly with water using your fingertip. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, pressing the edges together to seal tightly. Make sure to remove any air pockets.

Optionally, for an extra crunchy texture, you can dip the sealed wonton in water and then coat it with panko breadcrumbs on both sides.

Repeat the filling and sealing process until all the mixture and wrappers are used.

In a large skillet, heat about 1 inch of oil over medium-high heat. Once hot (you can check by dropping a small piece of wonton in; it should sizzle), carefully add a few wontons at a time to avoid overcrowding.

Fry the wontons for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.

Serve the Jalapeno Popper Wontons warm with your choice of dipping sauce like sour cream or ranch dressing.
