Ingredients

1 teaspoon matcha green tea powder

1 tablespoon hot water (about 80°C/176°F)

1 cup milk of your choice (dairy, oat, almond, etc.)

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (adjust to taste)

A sprinkle of cocoa powder or cinnamon for garnish

Optional: whipped cream for topping

Instructions

In a small bowl, whisk the matcha powder with the hot water until smooth and free of clumps, forming a vibrant green paste. This process can be done with a traditional bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric frother.

In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it's warm but not boiling, stirring occasionally. If you have a milk frother, you can froth the milk in a separate container instead.

Once warm, incorporate the honey or maple syrup into the milk, stirring until dissolved.

If using a frother, froth the milk until it becomes foamy. If not, whisk the milk vigorously to create some froth.

Pour the frothed milk into a cup or bowl, leaving some space for the matcha paste.

Gently scoop the prepared matcha paste on top of the frothed milk.

Sprinkle cocoa powder or cinnamon on top for a decorative touch and additional flavor.

Optional: If desired, add a dollop of whipped cream on top of the matcha for an indulgent treat.
