Ingredients

1 teaspoon high-quality matcha green tea powder

2 ounces hot water (not boiling, about 175°F / 80°C)

1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup (optional for sweetness)

1/4 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy) or froth for a latte experience

Pinch of sea salt (optional for enhanced flavor)

Instructions

Sift the Matcha: Begin by sifting the matcha green tea powder through a fine mesh sieve into a small bowl. This helps eliminate clumps and ensures a smoother drink.

Add Hot Water: Pour the hot water over the sifted matcha powder, ensuring the water is hot but not boiling to retain the delicate flavors of the matcha.

Whisk: Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small whisk, whisk the matcha and water together in a zig-zag motion until it becomes frothy and well combined. If you prefer a thicker consistency, you can use less water or whisk for a longer time.

Sweeten (Optional): If you like your matcha sweet, stir in honey or maple syrup until dissolved.

Froth the Milk (Optional): If you are making a matcha latte, heat and froth your milk of choice until creamy and foamy. You can use a frother, whisk, or even shake it in a jar for a few seconds.

Combine: Pour the frothy milk into your prepared matcha mixture. You can choose to leave it layered or stir gently to combine.

Garnish: For an optional gourmet touch, sprinkle a pinch of sea salt on top to enhance the flavor profile.

Serve & Enjoy: Pour into your favorite cup and enjoy your authentic matcha tea or latte!
