Ingredients

1 loaf of fresh Italian bread or French bread

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup sliced pepperoni

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking dish with parchment paper for easy cleanup if desired.

Slice the loaf of bread into 1-inch thick pieces without cutting all the way through, leaving the base intact. Make diagonal cuts to create a crisscross pattern.

In a small bowl, mix the melted butter, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper together.

Carefully brush the garlic butter mixture between the cuts of the bread, ensuring it seeps into the crevices.

Stuff the shredded mozzarella cheese and sliced pepperoni into every opening of the bread, filling it generously with both ingredients.

Wrap the fully stuffed bread in aluminum foil to keep moisture in, then place it on the prepared baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, uncover the bread and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired before serving.
