4 slices of sourdough bread

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

1/2 cup pepperoni slices (or your choice of pizza toppings)

1/4 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)

1 teaspoon Italian seasoning

1 tablespoon olive oil

Fresh basil leaves (for garnish, optional)

Prep the Bread: Spread a layer of softened butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.

    Assemble the Sandwich: Place two slices of bread buttered-side down in a large skillet over medium heat. On each slice, evenly distribute half of the mozzarella cheese. Layer the pepperoni slices on top, sprinkle Italian seasoning, and add a few spoonfuls of marinara sauce.

      Finishing Touches: Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese, then place the other two slices of bread buttered-side up on top of the sandwiches to form two complete sandwiches.

        Grilling: Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the bottom is golden brown and the cheese begins to melt. Carefully flip the sandwiches using a spatula and cook for another 3-4 minutes on the other side until golden and crispy.
