Ingredients

1 loaf of Italian bread (or French bread)

1 cup marinara sauce (plus extra for dipping)

1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup sliced pepperoni

2 tbsp olive oil

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp Italian seasoning

½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Bread: Carefully cut the loaf of Italian bread into a grid pattern, slicing it in a crisscross way without cutting all the way through the bottom. This will create small sections for the fillings.

Mix the Fillings: In a medium bowl, combine the marinara sauce, shredded mozzarella cheese, sliced pepperoni, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until well combined.

Stuff the Bread: Using a spoon, generously fill each section of the sliced bread with the pepperoni and cheese mixture, making sure to pack it in nicely.

Drizzle with Olive Oil: Once all sections are filled, place the stuffed bread on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle the top of the bread with olive oil, ensuring to cover all the cuts lightly.

Bake: Cover the bread loosely with aluminum foil and bake for about 15 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and the bread is golden brown.

Serve: Remove the bread from the oven and allow it to cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, then serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
