Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 large egg

1 cup buttermilk

½ cup vegetable oil

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tbsp red food coloring

1 cup cream cheese, softened

½ cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

¼ cup milk (for frosting)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a standard cupcake tin with paper liners.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Whisk them together until well blended.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate large bowl, beat the egg. Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and red food coloring. Mix thoroughly until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cupcakes light and fluffy.

Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting: In another bowl, whip together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat until creamy and smooth.

Create Marble Effect: Take a scoop of the red velvet batter and drop it into the lined cupcake tins, filling each about 1/3 full. Add a dollop of cream cheese frosting on top of the batter, and then add another scoop of the red velvet batter on top, creating a marbled effect by gently swirling with a toothpick or knife.

Bake: Bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow them to cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Frost the Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, top each with a generous swirl of the cream cheese frosting.

Garnish (optional): For an extra touch, sprinkle with chocolate shavings or red velvet crumbs on top of the frosting.
