Ingredients

For the Salisbury Steak:

1 lb ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp black pepper

1 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

For the Gravy:

2 cups beef broth

1 cup sliced mushrooms

1/2 cup finely chopped onion

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tbsp cornstarch (mixed with 2 tbsp cold water)

Salt and black pepper to taste

1 tbsp chopped fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Salisbury Steaks: In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until just combined.

Form Patties: Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into oval patties, about 1/2 inch thick.

Cook the Patties: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the patties to the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

Prepare the Gravy: In the same skillet, add sliced mushrooms and chopped onion. Sauté for about 5 minutes until the mushrooms are tender.

Add Broth and Seasoning: Slowly pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan. Bring the mixture to a simmer.

Thicken the Gravy: Stir in the cornstarch mixture and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, until the gravy thickens. Adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper to taste.

Combine and Serve: Return the Salisbury steaks to the skillet, spoon the gravy over the patties, and cook for another 2 minutes to heat through.

Garnish and Enjoy: Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley. Pair with mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables for a comforting fall meal.
