12 lasagna noodles

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 pound ground beef

1 pound ground pork

1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes

1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

2 teaspoons dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

15 oz ricotta cheese

1 egg

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Instructions
 

Cook the Noodles: In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    Prepare the Meat Sauce: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onions and garlic, sautéing until softened.

      Add Ground Meat: Stir in the ground beef and pork. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain excess fat.

        Add Tomatoes and Spices: Pour in the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce. Stir in oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and let simmer for about 15-20 minutes.

          Prepare Ricotta Mixture: In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.

            Assemble the Lasagna: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Place 3 lasagna noodles on top. Spread one-third of the ricotta mixture, followed by one-third of the mozzarella and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Repeat the layers twice more, finishing with a layer of noodles, meat sauce, and the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan on top.

              Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil (avoid touching the cheese) and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
