Ingredients

1 pound breakfast sausage (spicy or mild, based on preference)

1 cup milk

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for added heat)

2 pre-made pie crusts (or homemade, if preferred)

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

1/4 cup chopped green onions (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausage. Cook until browned and crumbly, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary.

Make the Gravy: Reduce heat to low, sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage, and stir to combine. Gradually pour in the milk and cream while stirring continuously. Add the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Continue to cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens, about 5-10 minutes. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Pie: Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Pour the sausage and gravy mixture into the crust. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Carefully lay the second pie crust over the filling, crimping the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.

Bake: Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove the pie from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before slicing.
