The origins of jalapeño poppers can be traced back to the late 20th century, where they made their debut as a popular appetizer in American cuisine. Traditionally, jalapeño poppers are composed of halved jalapeños filled with a mixture of cream cheese and spices, breaded, and then fried or baked. Over time, this beloved snack has evolved, inspiring a variety of recipes that seek to encapsulate the same flavors in a more shareable format. Thus, the jalapeño popper dip was born, allowing enthusiasts to enjoy that same creamy, spicy goodness in a format that’s perfect for dipping.

Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1 cup sour cream

1 cup mayonnaise

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded pepper jack cheese

4-6 fresh jalapeños, diced (seeds removed for less heat)

1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (optional)

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp lime juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh cilantro for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, and mayonnaise. Mix until smooth and well combined.

Stir in the shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheeses, and then add the diced jalapeños and cooked bacon, if using.

Add the garlic powder, onion powder, lime juice, and season with salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

Transfer the mixture into a baking dish, spreading it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the dip is bubbly and lightly golden on top.

Allow the dip to cool for a few minutes before garnishing with chopped fresh cilantro, if desired.

Serve warm with tortilla chips, pita bread, or fresh vegetable sticks for dipping.
