Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey for a lighter option)

1 medium onion, finely diced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 small red bell pepper, diced

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp chili powder

1 tsp ground cumin

1 tsp smoked paprika

½ tsp dried oregano

½ tsp salt (adjust to taste)

½ tsp black pepper

1 cup beef broth or water

1 tbsp tomato paste

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep Your Ingredients: Start by finely dicing the onion and red bell pepper, and mincing the garlic. Set aside.

Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the diced onion and red bell pepper. Sauté for about 3-4 minutes, or until the onion becomes translucent.

Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute, ensuring it doesn’t burn.

Brown the Meat: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula as it cooks (about 5-7 minutes).

Season the Meat: Once the meat is browned, drain excess fat if necessary. Stir in chili powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to ensure the meat is evenly coated with the spices.

Add Liquid Ingredients: Pour in the beef broth (or water), tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Stir well to combine all ingredients.

Simmer: Reduce the heat to medium-low and allow the mixture to simmer for about 10-15 minutes. This will help the flavors meld and the liquid to reduce slightly.

Taste and Adjust: Taste the taco meat and adjust seasonings as needed. You can add more salt, pepper, or spices based on your preference.

Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve the taco meat in taco shells or tortillas along with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, cheese, sour cream, salsa, and avocado.
