1 lb ground beef (preferably 80/20 for juiciness)

1 medium onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 green bell pepper, finely chopped

1 cup crushed tomatoes (canned or fresh)

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1 tablespoon brown sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

4 hamburger buns

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Fresh parsley, chopped for garnish

Instructions
 

In a large skillet, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and bell pepper. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.

    Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

      Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Break it up with a wooden spoon and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.

        Stir in crushed tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.

          Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens slightly. Adjust seasoning as needed.

            While the meat mixture is simmering, preheat your oven to broil.

              Toast the hamburger buns on a baking sheet under the broiler until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Watch closely to avoid burning.

                Spoon the beef mixture generously onto the toasted buns and top with shredded cheddar cheese.

                  Return the open-faced sandwiches to the broiler for an additional 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

                    Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley before serving.
